Halloween:
A day when we get it right.
Strangers come to us,
beautiful, ugly, odd or scary,
and we accept them all without question,
Compliment them, treat them kindly,
and give them good things.

A prayer for Halloween:
God, help us to be the light rather than to turn off our lights, to open our doors rather than to shut them tight.
Help us to show to the kids and teens that may come to our homes that there are safe, stable, Jesus-loving neighbours in their community.
Call those who have been snatched by the prince of darkness back to yourself as the Father and Creator of all.
As silly and futile as it may feel, help the gospel tracts on the candy and chocolate dropped in pillow cases and pumpkin pails be the seed that plants a curiosity for Christ.
Help us today and every day to reflect your light—your victory over sin and death—and to shine so bright it blinds like on the road to Damascus in order to “open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me” (Acts 26:18).
In Jesus name, Amen.
