Proverbs‬ ‭21 A Thousand Elsewhere

Proverbs‬ ‭21

The underlying concept (in various forms) of the battle belonging to the Lord, NOT US, is in the Bible many times. What a comfort that we don’t have to depend on our sinful, broken selves.

To name a few:

Exodus 14:13-14
And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

1 Samuel 17:47
And that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.

2 Chronicles 20:15
And he said, “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's.”

Romans‬ ‭8:31‬
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

I can’t help but sing ‘The Battle Belongs to the Lord’ when reading these.

In heavenly armour we'll enter the land
The battle belongs to the Lord
No weapon that's fashioned against us shall stand
The battle belongs to the Lord

We sing glory and honour
Power and strength to the Lord

The power of darkness comes in like a flood
The battle belongs to the Lord
He's raised up a standard, the power of His blood
The battle belongs to the Lord

We sing glory and honour
Power in strength to the Lord

When your enemy presses in hard do not fear
The battle belongs to the Lord
Take courage my friend, your redemption is near
The battle belongs to the Lord. --- A wicked man puts on a bold face, but the upright gives thought to his ways. No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord. Proverbs‬ ‭21:29-31‬ ‭| ESV‬‬
