Psalm 51
I love and hate stippling (all the dots).
I love it cause it looks pretty, fills a piece out nicely but I hate it because it hurts my hand.
I love it because it reminds me of the sand on the shore and the stars in the sky, the intricacies of the details of His hand, but I hate it because my sins are as numerous as that sand and those stars.
Every dot is a bittersweet symphony of yes and amen and a desperate cry to Christ to create in me a clean heart, a meditation I never pass up while using stippling in my artwork (I encourage you Christian creatives to give it a try).
We read in Romans 5:20 “Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.” With every added speck of sin—through repentance and Christ’s death on the cross—we will never run out of grace. There is an unlimited supply. For every speck of my sin, as in the sand on the shore there is a speck of grace for me, as in the stars in the sky. What a truth to hold tight to. --- Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:7-12 | ESV
