Stay in the Loop

Stay in the Loop

I have been gradually shifting away from social media over the last couple years and it feels good.

Consequently, I have been losing traction, followers, views, likes, comments—you name it—because I have not been posting consistently. Meta is not giving content creators (who don’t succumb to their high demand for video content) the time of day. The algorithm has fallen out of love with me.

But the thing is, I’m okay with that.

And that in itself is a miracle. Social media has taken too much of my life already. That silly little follower number on my profile took too much of my soul to get to. I don’t want my daughter growing up with a mother who always has her face lit up by a screen.

One of my biggest reasons for creating my own website was to have a digital home from which I can say and share and do what I want. No censorship, no algorithms, no pressures to cater to the masses. Related, I talked about this a bit in my stories but my recently launched newsletter is likely going to become my new avenue of communication with those who care to stick around.

8 years in, I don’t know what that means for this account (especially my missional intention with it) but I do know that it feels like I’m just getting started with the potential and possibilities of A Thousand Elsewhere.
