Proverbs 11
gra·cious
adjective
1. courteous, kind, and pleasant
hon·or
noun
1. high respect; great esteem
The gracious woman gains honor as surely as the ruthless acquire riches. A contrary thought to most of the book of Proverbs that the righteous prosper—showing that the writer is not unaware of exceptions.
We see it time and time again in a fallen world, people gaining riches and authority while treating the world and people around them with no respect. A crooked lifestyle eventually destroys a person because God’s order cannot ultimately be resisted.
We know that they earn deceptive wages, while we strive for a sure reward. --- Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent. Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered. Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure. A gracious woman gets honor, and violent men get riches. A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. Proverbs 11:12-17 | ESV
