Proverbs‬ ‭30 A Thousand Elsewhere

Proverbs‬ ‭30

needful
adjective
1. necessary; requisite

The more we have the more we want.

This portion of Proverbs 30 is an example of a balanced and honest prayer.

First: asking to be kept from falsehood in contrast to the truth of God’s Word.

Second: asking for moderation of wealth so the Lord wouldn’t be dishonored in poverty or riches.

Third: asking for only our daily bread in order to bring honour to the Lord.

Is this our priority desire—to bring honour to the Lord? Is our desire to have more stuff a reflection of longing to worship the Lord? My guess is no.

I invite you to pray these verses for yourself.

*Adapted from a blog post by Joel Dorman on lifemeetstheology.com which I would encourage you to look up and read. --- Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.
